Exposing in digital cameras is quite different from exposing in film cameras, Why? The simple answer is sensor behaves in a manner which is quite different from film.

To choose a correct exposure(proper values for aperture and shutter speed for a given ISO setting) a lot depends on how you are going to process the image later(post processing).
